Foxconn halts production at plant after mass brawl

大规模斗殴致富士康停产

     Taiwan-based Foxconn Technology, a majorsupplier for Apple, has halted production at a plant in northern China after afight broke out among workers.

   富士康科技集团总部位于台湾，是苹果的最大供货商之一。富士康太原工厂今日因工人斗殴事件停产。

     Foxconn confirmed that a "personaldispute" escalated into an incident involving about 2,000 workers,injuring 40 of them.

   富士康声称这起涉及2000多人，受伤40人的斗殴事件是由于“个人纠纷”引发的。

     Police later dealt with the situation nearthe facility in Taiyuan, which employs about 79,000 workers.

   警方随后对太原工厂的情况进行处理，事发的工厂约有79,000员工。

     Foxconn has previously been accused ofhaving poor conditions for its workers.

   之前，富士康已经被指出存在对员工提供的环境太差的问题。

Investigation launched

     Foxconn said the incident started on Sundayat about 23:00 local time (15:00 GMT) in a dormitory near the Taiyuanmanufacturing facility in Shanxi province.

   富士康道，事发于山西省太原工厂的员工宿舍，时间是星期天晚上约23点左右。

     Internet users in China posted pictures onmicroblog sites which they said had been taken at the scene showing windows ofnearby shops smashed and police vehicles overturned.

   在中国的网友将一些图片上传至微博网站，据称是在现场拍到的商店门窗被砸和掀翻警车的画面。

     Some photos showed police and paramilitaryofficers in riot gear being deployed to the scene.

   有些照片是警察和武警调往斗殴现场的画面。

     About 40 people were taken to hospital anda number of individuals have been arrested, the company said.

   富士康表示，大约有40人被送往医院护理，有部分人被捕。

     A senior government official from TaiyuanCity was quoted by the official Xinhua news agency as saying that three of theinjured people were in a serious condition.

   引用新华社报道中提到的太原市一位高级官员的话，有三名受伤者情况比较危险。

     The official also said that an initialinvestigation had found that the fighting had been a clash between workers fromShandong Province and Henan Province.

   这位官员还表示，初步调查显示，斗殴的矛盾是山东籍和河南籍的员工。

     The Xinhua agency reported that the disputehad been brought under control by 5,000 policemen by 09:00 local time onMonday.

   新华社报道，事发现场已经于周一上午9点由5000名警察控制。

     Foxconn said that the dispute did notappear to have been work-related.

   富士康表示，此次事件与工作生产无关。

     But unverified messages on the Twitter-likesocial network Weibo suggested that violence from security guards may havesparked the unrest.

   但是从微博上的不确定消息来看，冲突是由工厂的保安所引起的。

     One said that four or five security guardshad beaten a worker almost to death, while another said that rioting workershad been targeting security guards who had earlier beaten some of theircolleagues.

   有人称，四五名保安在近乎将一名工人打死；而也有人说是闹事员工是为了报复之前打了他们同事的保安人员。

     There was no independent confirmation ofthese messages.

   这些消息都没有得到确认。

     The plant makes electronic components forcars and consumer devices.

     Earlier in the year a fight broke out in arestaurant at a Foxconn plant involving about 100 workers.

   前半年，富士康曾爆出涉及100多人的员工餐厅斗殴事件。

     State media reported that the incident inChengdu "was triggered by a conflict" between a group of workers anda restaurant owner.

   媒体报导称，成都的事件是由员工和餐厅经营者的从图引发的。

     A string of suicides at Foxconn last yearput the spotlight on working conditions at its factories.
