We have uncovered extensive crime network, involved in worldwide football match fixing. A total of 425 match officials, club officials, players and serious criminals from more than 15 countries are suspected of being involved in a claim to fix more than 380 professional football matches.

The activities took part of a sophisticated organized crime operation, which generated over 8 million Euros in betting profits and involving a payment of at least 2 million Euros in corrupt payment to those involved in the matches.

This investigation coordinated multiple police inquires across Europe and those facilitated by intelligent reports from Europol, which is based on the analysis of 130,000 emails, other materials. And this helped identify links between suspected matches, and tells us an uncovered nature of organized crime network involved in this activity. The investigation assumes to let several prosecutions in the countries involved. 

Among the 380 or so suspicious matches identified in this case are qualification matters for the World Cup and European Football Championships. Two UF champion’s league matches, including one played in England, and several top flight matches in European National Leagues. 

In addition another 300 suspicious matches were identified outside Europe, in Africa, Asia, South and Central America. So this is messiest activity on the scale that we had not seen before, involving hundreds of criminals and corrupted officials and players, affecting hundreds of professional matches and generating very large amount of illicit profits. It is also the work of a sophisticated international organized crime syndicate based in Asia and working with criminal facilitators around Europe.
