spur of the moment

<　先看看它的定义：done or occurring on impulse: happening, made, or done in haste, without reflection or preparation。用中文解释，可以是“一时冲动/心血来潮/头脑一热”。它最常用来形容decision和choice。比如：I didn't know I'd be in Canada for Christmas. It was a spur-of-the-moment decision. （我并不知道我会在加拿大过圣诞。那是我心血来潮作的决定。）
He never pays attention to what he wears, but he bought a Ralph Lauren shirt the other day.I guess it was a spur-of-the-moment choice. （他从不注重穿衣，但他那天竟然买了件Ralph Lauren的衬衫。我猜可能是一时冲动的选择吧。）
把spur-of-the-moment里的横线去掉，可以当词组来用，意思完全一样，不过前面得加上介词on。比如，上面两个例句可以改为：I went to Canada for Christmas on the spur of the moment. （我心血来潮，去加拿大过了圣诞。）
He bought a Ralph Lauren shirt on the spur of the moment. （他一时兴起，买了件Ralph Lauren衬衫。）

P.S. 这两天spur-of-the-moment之所以会那么流行，全拜Britney Spears三号结婚、五号就离婚所赐。所有的媒体一律称她这次结婚为“a spur-of-the-moment decision”和“a joke that went too far”。同时，annulment毫无意外地成了OneLook.com一月五号的word of the day。
