Good evening and welcome!

今晚，我们在此相聚，共同庆祝北京2008年残奥会隆重开幕。

Tonight, we are here to celebrate the opening ceremony of 2008 Beijing Paralympics.

本届残奥会的规模空前，无论是运动员人数、参赛国家和地区数量还是体育项目数量，都超过往届残奥会。

The scale of this Paralympics is exceptional. For the number of athletes, the participating countries and the sports items all surpass the former one.

这是残奥运动史上的一座里程碑。我们为此感到欢欣鼓舞，我们的心也与今年上半年接连遭受自然灾害的数百万中国人民在一起。

This Games will be a landmark in the Paralympic history. We are inspired by it. Meanwhile, we are of one mind with the millions of Chinese people who had just suffered one after another severe natural disasters in the passed few months.

灾难没能阻挠中国，没能阻挠北京奥组委和刘淇主席继续筹办奥运会。北京奥运会精彩绝伦，相信北京残奥会也一定会圆满成功。

The disasters didn't obstruct China and the determination of President Liu Qi and Beijing Olympic Organization Committee to make preparations for the Olympic Games. Beijing Olympic Games is wonderful and exceptional. I believe that Beijing Paralympics will achieve another great success.

我想对你们致以谢意，感谢你们的出色工作。七年以来，我们的合作一直是友善、坦诚、稳健、互敬和富有建设性的。

I should pay tribute to all of you, thank you for your excellent work. In the past seven years, our cooperation has always been friendly, frank, stable and constructive.

　　我还要感谢国际奥委会给予我们的支持，感谢雅克·罗格主席，感谢终身名誉主席胡安·安东尼奥·萨马兰奇先生，今晚他也与我们在一起。

Also, I should give my thanks to the International Olympic Committee for their great support, also President Jacques Rogge and Mr. Juan Antonio Samaranch, who will stay with us tonight. Thank you very much!

毋庸置疑，今晚以及此后的十一天当中，运动员们将是真正的英雄。

No Doubt, tonight and the next 11 days, the athletes will be the true heroes.

残奥运动员们，你们为了来到这里，历经了无数个春秋的苦练。你们一定要淋漓尽致地发挥，一定要尊重公平竞赛的精神。谁人都无法预知，你们将如何超越最大胆的梦想。

Athletes of the Paralympics, in order to come here, you have practiced year after year. So you should fully bring out your potentials and respect the the spirit of fair play. Nobody could predict that how you will exceed your boldest dream.

你们来到这里，也是为了愉悦身心，结交朋友，将北京、青岛和香港留存为永恒的记忆。这不是关于希望，而是关于远见卓识和你们所代表的一切。无论你们在运动场上展现风采，还是在国际残奥委会运动员委员会选举中坦陈意见，我们都想从中领略你们的自信与独立。

Also, you come here to relax your body and soul and to make friends. Please keep Beijing, Qingdao and Hongkong as your eternal memory. This has no concern with hope, but with farsightedness and all that you have represented. No matter you want to exhibit your elegance in the sports ground or give your frank suggestions during the election of the International Paralympic Committee, Athletes Committee, we all want to see your confidence and independence.

此刻，我想与大家一同欣赏这座美轮美奂的体育场。“鸟巢”是一个活生生的例证，象征着中国对于建设现代化世界的承诺。

At the right moment, I want to appreciate the beautiful stadium with all of you. “Bird Nest” is a vivid example, representing the promise of China to build a modernization world.

我们都可以看到，这座由钢筋、混凝土、玻璃和其他高科技材料建造而成的建筑气势恢宏。然而在今夜，当你们大家，观众们、演员们和运动员们置身于这座极富建筑美感的体育场时，它才真正被赋予了生命。而当随队官员、赛事官员、媒体、赞助商以及中国无与伦比的志愿者们也来到这里时，你们将共同创造独一无二的残奥经历。

All of us can see the magnificent vigor of this wonderful architecture made by reinforcing steel bars, concrete, glass and other Hi-Tech materials. However, only when all of you, the audience, the performers and the athletes are in the beautiful stadium, can it be given a true life. But when the team officials, the match officials, media, sponsors and the unmatched volunteers come here, you are going to create a unique Paralympic experience.

从明日起，我们将看到一幕幕的好戏，我们将看到胜利，我们将看到失望。然而，最为重要的是，当我们相聚在一起，我们将融入那独特的力量之源，它似乎触手可及，又的确可被呼吸，它存在于残奥运动的核心，我们称之为残奥精神。它一旦占据你的心灵，你将难以割舍。它将伴随你的一生！

From tomorrow, we will see one after another wonderful shows. We can see victory and despair. However, the most important thing is that when we get together, we will melt into the unique power source, which seems easily accessible and breathable. This is called the spirit of the Paralympics. when your soul was taken up by it, you will find it was difficult to detach. It will accompany you through your whole life.

在北京2008年残奥会的十二天当中，你将会发现，那些你本以为存在于世上的差别其实远非那么明显。

During the twelve days of the 2008 Beijing Paralympics, you will find, that the difference existed in the world will not that clear as you ever thought.

你们将会看到我们共处同一个世界。

You will find that we are all in the same world.
