Dearest,
I feel certain that I am going mad again. I feel we can’t go through another of these terrible times and I…shan’t recover this time. I begin to hear voices, and can’t concentrate. So I am doing what seems to be the best thing to do. You have given me the greatest possible happiness. You have been in every way all that anyone could be. I know that I am spoiling your life, and without me, you could work. And you will, I know. You see, I can’t even write this properly. What I want to say is that I owe all the happiness of my life to you. You have been entirely patient with me…and incredibly good. Everything is gone from me but the certainty of your goodness. I can’t go on spoiling your life any longer. I don’t think two people could have been happier than we have been.

伍尔芙:“Just one day and in that day, her whole life.”(译文:只有一天,就是她的一生。)
理查:“Oh, Mrs. Dalloway, always giving parties to cover the silence.”(译文:达洛卫夫人总是举行派对来填补内心寂寞。)
“Because I wanted to be a writer, that’s all.
“I wanted to write about it all. Everything that happens in a moment. The way the flowers looked when you carried them in your arms. This towel, how it…smells, how I feels. This thread. All our feelings, yours and mine. The history of it, who we once were. Everything in the world. Everything all mixed up…like it’s all mixed up now. And I failed. I failed. No matter what you start with, it ends up being so much less. Sheer fucking pride and stupidity. We want everything, don’t we?”
理查问了克拉丽莎:“Would you be angry if I died? I think I’m only staying alive to satisfy you.”(译文:我死了你会不会生气? 克拉丽莎回答到:“So that is what we do. That’s what people do. They stay alive for each other.”(译文:这就是人生,每个人都是这样,他们为了彼此而活下去。)
What about your own life? Just wait till I die. Then you’ll have to think of yourself. How are you going to like that?
“Tell me the moment you were happiest…
“I remember one morning…getting up at dawn. There was such a sense of possibility. And I remember thinking to myself, so, this is the beginning of happiness. This is where it starts. And, of course, there will always be more. It wasn’t the beginning. It was happiness. It was the moment…right then.”
——“It was done for you! It was done for your betterment! It was done out of love”。
在宁静的里士满她可能会死掉,因为她更喜欢大都市强烈的震撼(伍尔芙台词:I choose not the suffocating anesthetic of the suburbs, but the violent jolt of the capital.)。
:“You cannot find peace by avoiding life.”(译文:逃避生活得不到宁静。)
:“Someone has to die in order that the rest of us should value life more.”(译文:某人必须去死这样其他人才可以更好地珍惜生命。) |
