Laojun Mountain, a peak-forest and wreathing-mist attraction
In late autumn with chrysanthemums blooming plus breezes caressing colorful leaves, it′s the right time to feast our eyes on the gorgeous dresses the Mother Earth has put on.
In a sunny weekend my family together with my sister′s was heading for Luanchuan Luoyang and after around three hour′s driving, Laojun Mountain was impressively in sight.
Laojun Mountain that boasts its Taoism culture and gorgeous landscape is a national 5A tourist attraction with 80yuan gate ticket per person. "Haw-haw, it just costs me 1yuan for a gate ticket in the LY.com!" Just like the post-80s and 90s, my sister can take good use of the Internet. As we got to the entrance, it′s nearly at noon. Considering time and physical condition, we decided to climb the mountain partially on foot and partially through the cable car; we bought 100 yuan round-trip ropeway tickets and in twenty minutes we arrived at the Zhongtian Gate. Now overlooking Laojun Mountain in the cable car, we saw peak forests in splendid colors.
Since the one-of-a-kind landscape is on the mist-shrouded prominent peak of Funiu Mountain, so we spent 65yuan for another section′s round-trip ropeway tickets, and rode to the summit. As we went up the mountain, we were all in the mist.
Mazong Ridge looks like a head-raising horse that faces east, while the declined Taibai rhododendrons that cover all over the horse back resemble horse mane when looking from afar, but they were all enveloped by dense mists, presenting some rare thrilling views. On a narrow plank road of a steep cliff, I had to hold my wife′s hand to step forward because of her fearing of height, and to climb the destination "′Zongling Overlook′---the best viewing location of the 800li Funiu Mountains".
When we came to the "Glass Viewing platform", we saw some young people stand or walk on it, and some pose for photos, but my wife was too nervous to stand near and touch the platform no matter how I demonstrated and encouraged her. Atop the cliff, the trees being dressed up in frost flowers, and the cold wind blowing with thick mists, enchanted by this atmosphere, though felt cold and pain in the hands, my wife took photographs of my frosted hairs cheerfully.
Laojun Mountain, at an elevation of 2192 meters above sea level, was said to be the place where the hermit Laozi once lived in seclusion and cultivated self and vital energy. The golden temple of Laojun Mountain was disappearing and reappearing in thick mists, and now was totally lost in the clouds, which made the visitors pull back in disappointment.
When climbing the stairs, we all saw the sun emerging from the clouds, emiting radiant light and overshining the Jinding, beneath the stairs, the view just like a peak-forest and wreathing-mist realm. Ah, it′s a big blessing. "Hurry and climb to the Jinding!" exclaimed my wife excitedly.
At the Jinding, overlooking the peak forest, we satisfied our eyes on the peculiar peaks and strange pines; clouds and divine light loomed from the mist now and then, just like a mirage. To our surprise, when we were excited to have ten minutes for photographing, a puff of mist blew and the Jinding once again dissolved in the mist.
The happy while flew, which reminded us of looking for hotels, and we were going to climb the summit to watch the sunrise. However, all the hotels were reserved and most of the guests spoke Beijing dialect. "Does the Tour Guide say that the hotels are available at any time, doesn′t it? " My sister had done the reserch job. "Due to the Beijing APEC meeting, many Beijingers have a short time holiday, and every scenic spot in Henan province is open to Beijing tourists with free gate tickets." Well, we had to go down the mountain before dusk. Luckily, we caught the last cable car.
"We haven′t been to the Ten Li Gallery," lingering around my sister. As Laojun Mountain was gradually fading away from our sight, sitting in the cable car we said to it: "Laojun Mountain, we will pay you a revisit next time."
