我们却喜欢使用筷子。一个重要的原因是中西方存在着不同的饮食结构。西方是以肉食为主,我们却以粮食为主食,以蔬菜和少量的肉类为副食,以及长此以来而形成的动与静,强劲与温和的性格差异。 筷子是中国的国粹。他既轻巧又灵活,它有着一段很长的历史。中国是筷子的发源地,筷子已有3000年历史,是世界上的母国。据史料记载,最早的筷子出现在距今三千多年的新石器时代。筷子的出现不仅是中华饮食文化的革命,更是一种人类文明的象征。经过岁月的磨练和时间的洗礼,筷子不但没有被历史淘汰,而是越发的散发出历久弥香的气息,并慢慢演化成以一种实用与文化相结合的形式而存在。筷子看起来只是非常简单的两根小细棒,但它有挑、拨、夹、拌、扒等功能,且使用方便,价廉物美。筷子也是当今世界上一种独特的餐具。凡是使用过筷子者,不论华人或是老外,无不钦佩筷子的发明者。以前筷子单叫箸,箸的起源可追溯到周代, “筷子”英语称“Chopsticks”,前一半“Chop”有劈断的意思,后一半“stick”是棍,棒,前后相结合,意思就是俩根劈柴棍儿,后因“中国菜”称Chopsuency”.筷子倒是说的非常贴切。( 有人认为:东西方出现进食工具筷子和刀叉的不同,和环境有关系,筷子要发源于有竹子的地方。这一直很让中国人骄傲,并将其视作先进的象征。使用筷子更有利锻炼思维能力的说法却着实有科学依据。科学家们曾从生理学的观点对筷子提出一项研究成果,认定用筷子进食时,要牵动人体三十多个关节和五十多条肌肉,从而刺激大脑神经系统的活动,让人动作灵活、思维敏捷。今天的筷子,已经不单作为一种就餐工具,而是成为一种独特的文化形式,代表着一种文明的气息,成为研究,使用,欣赏,馈赠,收藏相结合的艺术品 Conclusion 中西方饮食文化上确实存在着很大的差异,这是中西方在社会发展、传统文化思想、生活习俗等方面的差异所造成的。通过比较,我发现中西双方都可互补、吸纳之用。各国都有各国的饮食文化,而通过了了解,可以增长我们的见闻,增加对中西双方的了解与认识,而国与国之间的交流更加密切了。对于整个人类、整个社会、整个世界而言,它们有一个巨大的相同点--都是世界文化宝库中的珍宝,都是我们应该好好研究、学习、掌握,应用于实际生活并加以继承和发展的。

But we still like using chopsticks, for one important reason is the different diet structure between East and West. While the West ,as meat for its major food, China is as grain for its major food and as vegetable and small quantity of meat for subsidiary food, forming into different characters :activity and stillness, strength and mildness. Chopstick is the quintessence of Chinese culture. Of legerity and agility, they have a long history. Originated from China, a mother country of chopsticks in the world, Chopsticks have a long history of more than 3000 years. According to the historical records, The earliest chopsticks existed in the New Stone Age, more than 3000 years ago. The appearance of chopsticks is not only revolution of Chinese diet culture, but also a civilization symbol of human beings. As the years glide and time past, chopsticks are not faded out by history, but increasingly expire historical fragrance, and gradually evolve a form combined practice and culture as its existence. It seems chopsticks are simply two slim sticks, but they possess of function of pick, move, nip, mix and push etc., as well as convenience, cheapness and goodness. Chopsticks are also a unique dishware in the world. Anybody, Whom used them, no matter Chinese descent or foreigner, all praises the inventor of chopsticks. Chopsticks were only called Zhu, which is originated from Chinese Zhou dynasty. In English, the first half of word chop means Chopping, and the second half of the word stick means goog or stick. As the combination of chop and stick, chopsticks mean two chopping sticks. Later because the Chinese food, it is called chopseuncy, but the name is quite suitable. Some people think the different dishware between East and West connects with environment. Originated in places of bamboo, which is the Chinese proud and viewed as the symbol of advancement, they can well exercise ideation which meets scientific prove. Scientist, from physiological view, raised up a research fruit. They claim that when take food using Chopsticks, more than 30 bone joint and 50 muscles are influenced, stimulating brainy neural activity, which can enable people agility and smartness. Today, chopsticks are not simply a dishware, but also as a unique cultural formality, representing a symbol of civilization and becoming an art combined with research, use, appreciation, gift and collection. Indeed, there exists different dietary culture between East and West, which are caused by different social development, traditional culture, convention etc., Compared with them, I think diet culture of East and West can complete and absorb each other. Each country has its own dietary culture, through understand, we can increase our information of world, the understanding and knowledge of East and West, and communication among countries. For the whole human being, society and world, they have a huge sameness----the world culture treasure, which is surely to be researched, learned, mastered, apply in practice, maintained and developed.

One important reason attributes to the different diets between China and the western world, for meat makes up the major part in western diet, while ours is dominated by rice, helped with vegetables and small amount of meat as non-stable food, added the two’s different characters developed through this long time, one is active and strong, and the other is quiet and moderate. Chopsticks are considered the "quintessence" of Chinese culture. They are light and flexible in use, and have a long history. China is the origin of chopticks, which have a 3000-year-long history, and is the mother country in the world. In accordence with the historical materials, chosticks were firstly found in Neolithic Age which is over 3000 years ago. The emergence of chopsticks not only represents a reformation in Chinese dietary culture, but also becomes a symbol of people’s civilization. Although generations have passed away, chopsticks were not eliminated, but inherited as a combination of practical functions and cultural values with their irresistable charm developed during this long time. The ones who have the experience of using chopsticks, no matter Chinese or foreigners, all show high praises on the inventor. Chopticks were called ’Zhu’ in the past, which could be tracked back to Zhou Dynasty. The Enghlish name of chopsticks are combined by two parts, the front-part ’chop’, which means cut something into two parts, and ’stick’ in the rear, which means a length of wood, and all together it means two chopped sticks, and later for the Chinese food were called Chopsuency (拼写应该是‘Chopsuey’吧). Any way, the name sounds really quite fitting. It’s thought that enviroment contributes to the evolution of the two different sets of eating tools, Chinese chopsticks and western knife and fork, in that bamboo is essential for the emergence of chopsticks. Chinese feel proud about it for long and regard it as a symbol for advancement. Scientific evidence proved that using chopsticks may help to develop a quick mind. A research made by scientists from a physiological view showed that, while eating with chopsticks, over 30 parts of joints and 50 parts of muscles were involved, which may stimulate the acts of brain, and consequently made the users move fast and be quick in mind. Nowdays, chopsticks are no longer only tools for eating, but become a particular cultural form, representing a civilization and being investigated, used, appreciated, presented and preserved as artworks by people. Conclusion There is a big gap between China and the western world in their dietary culrures, which is the result of their differences in social developments, traditional thoughts, living customs and so on. Through comparation, I found they could complement each other. Each country has her own dietary culture, while knowing more about each other may enlarge our horizons, enhance the understanding and recognition between China and western world, as well as strengthen the communications between them. For the entire human beings, societies and the world, they share one thing in common, - they are all precious in the treasure-house of the world’s culture, and they are all valuable for being investigated, studied, mastered, applied in real life, and so be inheritated and developed by us.
